Day 29 - river wisdom
Every morning during Willow’s first nap I walk or bike down to Riu Uvita to play and observe the water flowing over the rocky riverbed
The flow volume varies daily based on the rainfall over the past 24 hours as the water flows from the mountains to the ocean
Putting my feet in the river, feeling the flow of cool water over my legs and watching the river move past me is immensely calming and meditative
To me, the river has become a representation of life
The water represents the reality of constant change
Each day is a dance between periods of intense (even violent) turbulence and calm
Flowing with life means accepting that we can’t avoid the intense, uncomfortable times, we can only flow with them and allow them to wash over us
Everything is temporary and the goal is to find the beauty in every situation and appreciate the wild extremes of the human experience
Just like turbulent flow shifts stones in the river and permanently alters the riverbed, major challenges in my life change and transform me into a fundamentally different human
Lessons for me:
Aspire to be strong, stable and calm like the rocks
Allow shifts to happen when challenging times push me to change into a new person
Change is the only constant
Allowing and observing the flow of life instead of fighting is a key to reducing suffering
