What IS sophisticated is the way AI text/art generators SYNTHESIZE their vast hoards of training data into (somewhat) coherent output based on a prompt (plus the randomizer above). When AI art doesn't spit out six-fingered, three-eyed mutants _every time_ (only some of the time) is progress. The fact that text generators only make up facts, say 2 + 2 = 5 and suggest putting glue on pizza _some_ of the time is progress.
