Depressing Thanksgiving. My side of the family. It's dwindled down to nothing. My brother is in his second month of inpatient rehab from a stroke; so he's very confused and alone and depressed. Everyone is miserable and mostly alcoholic.

Stuff like this makes it hard to just enjoy her side of the family; "the Get along Gang". They have no frame of reference; their comfort and their personal wins are just "blessings", as if the general lack of self-destructive, low-functioning elders are just, you know, additional blessings and not foundational predictors of their stability.

Being highly functional trash makes the holidays a net negative.
