Sounds set on it, contributing to ads. That does feel like the kind of thing that Google would do slightly underhandedly.
But this article is just basing shit off of copy on a website instead of anything to do with any researchers that have been digging into this exact question for quite a while now. Like, those speakers have to send network traffic to send that, and considering one can outright run the SDK for assistance speakers, and could absolutely MITM that shit, I would absolutely assume that if this was actually happening already, we would know with proof instead of the continued circumstantial coincidence stuff that I feel far more likely is the facebook app itself potentially listening to shit.
I'm not saying definitively that it's not happening, but I have very very strong doubts about that just because this is the sort of thing that shouldn't be hard to prove, and I have seen absolutely nothing proving it so far other than people citing coincidence repeatedly which again often people forget what they've searched (have had this happen and later saw I had actually asked or searched things and was like 'ohhh')
