Linking directly to btc could be a good or bad thing. It may encourage the use of BTC / crypto, which is great. It might also discourage true diversity of thought through paywalls and private systems as whenever a financial gain is possible.. people will most definitely take advantage of that.

It can be for all kinds of noble reasons, but at its core, it's just 'getting ahead' and it's been a problem for almost every good thing humanity has created.

Altruism doesn't pay the bills though :) So it's not really wrong or terrible, it's just generally inevitable.

I think one of the few social networks that hasn't gone that way is IRC, but it's too old and text based for most people now.
