There are still some missing features like posting short text events, likes, and reposts, so a fully functional client will take some more time to develop.

Because it was initially meant to add a local event browsing feature to nostr-relay-tray. If people like it, I could consider making it a standalone project.

I think it's a good idea! But I need to research packaging it with other relays, as I haven't tried anything like that before and I'm not sure how difficult it would be.
The relay in nostr-relay-tray uses a framework I developed https://github.com/CodyTseng/nostr-relay , similar to khatru, which allows for replacing the database implementation. If the goal is to improve performance, replacing the database implementation may be enough.
