You'll be unsurprised (not least as its a perception so often articulated here, on Mastodon) that trust in the UK's government has reached an all-time low (as measured by the regular British Social Attitudes survey).
Some might plausibly argue, this has been a key Tory strategy - breed mistrust as a way of justifying 'small government' & the transfer of capacity to the private sector.
