Android Open Source Project and operating systems based on it use filesystem-based encryption. The standard approach uses per-user Credential Encryption (CE) keys for encrypting data in each user. Data blocks and filenames for data in users are encrypted with per-user keys. Data blocks and filenames for special global data such as packages and saved Wi-Fi networks are encrypted with Device Encryption (DE) keys to make it available early.
