I write otherworld locations & create them using a mix of online research, locations I have (or easily can) visit, & extrapolating using a combination of the above & my imagination. I've been in over 40 of the US's 50 states, so that helps.
13. beta readers
I’ve had them in the past with mixed results & have never had one who provided keen, critical insights. I did have one excellent critique partner, though.
