We live in a new financial landscape after this past weekend. The very next bank to fail that doesn’t cover all depositors (and mark my words, it will happen at some point), people will immediately grow concerned that their bank might not get bailed out. Suddenly the idea of a digital checking account directly at the Fed will see really attractive. And that’s how a CBDC becomes a reality in the US.
