How does the synchronous nature of Lightning payments affect user experience?
I think its ok; people can use custodial wallets, and if they're doing a lot of transactions, then they have an incentive to run a full node. People have become used to having someone do everything for them, so much so that they are horrified and think their fundamental human rights are being violated if someone is not doing everything for them!
They have a choice: learn how Bitcoin and Lightning work and have greater security, or use a service and trust someone you don't know. It's not that large sums are involved; you can have an Electrum wallet and your keys = your bitcoin, so its not hard.
It's like expecting it to be impossible to lose your cash out of your wallet or not to have it snatched as you take it out! People expect too much for little effort.
