Can anybody explain to me why blockchain technology is suddenly worthwhile and responding to an actual need when applied in science? AFAICT, (more sustainable) "ways of recording and verifying research data, ensuring the integrity and authenticity of scientific contributions" have been around for quite some time. And that's the only use I can think of - but maybe there's more to it and somebody can enlighten me?
