It's interesting how people over on the bird site keep getting blocked and censored harder every day, but still can't manage to break away from it.
I too hesitated for a long time and gave in to the 'network effect'. But I've hated being there for about a year now. People who do nothing in their online activism frenzy except talk and complain about Elon's exercise of house rights, narcissist posers and big mouths... they all have nothing to show for it except blah blah.
Some guys even appeared out of nowhere wanting to "save the Ummah" and getting thousands of low-profile followers in 6 weeks. Who knows how. But not a single link to a website, not a single proof of performance, not a single completed project. I was already fed up.
So I was trapped in the network effect and then simply asked around "what's keeping you all from migrating digitally?" I mean, these are all freedom-loving people. And then there were replies like "I want to do dawah here, ya da ya da, blah blah".
A respected Muslim scholar said something fitting today about this "I'm in this cesspool to save other souls" thing. Namely:
"What dawah? Online? Boy, your nafs has already done dawah to you, shaytan has done dawah to you and you've totally fallen for it."
Well, everyone takes their place in the community that they deserve. I'd rather be free and build things so we're a little better off tomorrow. While the people who want to do "online dawah" let themselves be humiliated (also by their own nafs) and locked up by fiat billionaires for years to come.
Forget about big tech. The internet started decentralised, by the people for the people. Even Google wasn't there at that time.
We've fallen victim to our own comfort, vanity, and need for recognition. Nobody forced us, we consciously enslaved ourselves. This has to end now. Back to the roots.
