I learned a long time ago that when politicians do 'stupid' things, I think that only because I began with a faulty premise: they are acting in the best interests of their constituents and are trying their level best to fulfill their fiduciary responsibilities.
BZZZZT! Wrong!
They are acting in their own self interest and bugger you and your fellow citizens.
There is money in this game for Trump, Elon & co.
I can't pretend to know all the ins and outs, but I know they must be there. These are not idiots. They are sociopaths who have managed to climb to the highest pinnacle of power on the planet and they enjoy the wealth of entire nations in their personal bank accounts.
Granted, they both began life with a huge leg-up being born millionaires, but that just makes them even more psychopathic and lacking in empathy.
As I say, I really don't know. Drive the market down and buy up lots of stock on the cheap? Sell off the government for parts thatcher-style? Reward all their friends and expect it to come back? Enrich their own companies and foundations? Install and support various dictators in return for future payback after office?
IDK, but I guarantee they aren't acting stupid in their eyes. They are working towards their own goals and the rest of us can just bugger right off.
