The Luther vs Erasmus debate (by issued letters). Luther said "by faith alone" (is one saved) and the Catholic church responded no, by faith AND good works. The latter maintained societal order AND personal responsibility. You don't get what Hitchens and Dawkins charged as "vicarious salvation" thru Jesus, which arguably is not Paul's position (per his genuine 7 of 13 letters in NT).
