if you're unfamiliar with the concept, whitebox cryptography essentially tries to solve the "problem" of storing the key right next to the data by instead feeding the key into the cipher, doing the round key initialisation, then saving the internal state of the cipher instead of the original key.

from a cryptographic standpoint it is indistinguishable from just putting the key with the data. it's an obfuscation technique. and it's effective due to being annoying, but still ultimately pointless.
