It's not hard for me to see why paranoid, fearful people who have been whipped into a frenzy by propaganda and aimed at the rest of us are committing violent crimes. Our government and society clearly don't care about us, so there's nothing to lose for people who see violence as a way to achieve their goals. If you're locked into a system that will make you miserable and then kill you early, why NOT go out in a blaze of "glory"?

I think the sooner we start acknowledging that violent crimes are inherently reasonable to the person commiting them, instead of throwing up our hands and saying "inexplicable", or "senseless", the sooner we'll find a way to change the culture and stop mass shootings.

(Also if you want a great book that's a little out of date on the topic, discussing how mass shootings are a historical phenomenon, not a modern one, I recommend "Mass Murder in the United States: A History" by Grant Duwe.)
