Give up the illusion of identity and just be a human

We are all mostly the same. We want simple things - a comfortable home, a loving family, friends, loving pets, a couple of cars ... we just want to be happy
Why then do we let politics, race, and religion divide us on the basis of "identity"?
Shouldn't we all just be human?
