You're goddamned right I reject that need. It's a fake need, a solution that will create its own problem. You are advocating a monoculture which is owned entirely by corporate megaliths. That's as purely a capitalist vision as I can imagine.

Peoples needs differ. People need *bespoke* solutions to their problems, which run on the platforms *they* choose. "Write once, run anywhere" presupposes that we actually need to run the same program everywhere, which is bullshit. What we need is fully native solutions to the problems of the people who own and use the machines.
