I understand that the root cause of crime might be poverty; however, not enforcing laws in order to not unjustly oppress the poor has consequences: people flee the cities, companies flee the cities, supermarkets and big box stores flee the cities, families-that-can flee the cities, taxbases flee the cities. That can result in cheaper housing and more access to inventory; however, it also destroys the economy for generations, like happened in in the wake of the 1968 Washington, D.C., riots.
