March Bluesky Protocol updates:

Mostly they’re working on labels, we’ve got labels in Nostr but we don’t seem to use them as extensively as they do over in bluesky. They’re also getting ready to open up and release Ozone, their moderation labeling tool. I know most folks here aren’t keen on composable moderation, but I think a moderation system you can choose with alternatives is probably closer to what normies are looking for. The nostr model of using your network and web of trust works once you’ve GOT a network, but it’s not great for new users.
The good part about being able to choose your moderation system on bluesky, is you can choose a minimalist one that only removes CSAM (Child sexual abuse material) which is illegal to have. With that option, and your own PDS they only real choke point is the GDS server which they’ve still not got a model for federating.
On a different point, I had a conversation with some of the bluesky folks at the Princeton Social Media Protocols Workshop ( https://dsmw.cs.princeton.edu/ ) about lightning and bluesky. It seems like it’s pretty straightforward to add lightning wallet addresses to bluesky profiles, they’ve got a more constrained schema system, so we’d need to publish a schema and validator for it, but with that, it should be easy to do something like Nostr Wallet Connect on bluesky. Maybe do it like npub.cash so it just works?
