it's far to common to consider "fascism" and "totalitarianism" synonyms.
Fascism itself has a neat history. Originally, it was super progressive: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fascist_Manifesto
Then, to get broad support, it basically changed to "yah, but elites should be in charge, churches should have power, women shouldn't vote and we should let the state use violence to protect the free market from the evil socialists."
Reminds me of how Republicans always talk about Lincoln and somehow forget about how all the anti-civil rights politicians switched parties and became the backbone of today's republican party.
