So, some personal news: After just over seven years covering cybersecurity as senior reporter at ZDNET, last Friday was my final day in the role.
Decisions have been made at a corporate level for the CNET media group as a whole – and they don’t include my position here in London, or seemingly much focus on the area I've diligently covered at the site since 2016.
But it’s not all bad news. I’ve been fortunate with the well-timed arrival of a new opportunity for what’s next – still in cybersecurity, but in a slightly different capacity to what I was doing as a journalist and reporter.
Not to be ~mysterious~ but I’ll detail more at some point in the future.
For now, I’m going to take advantage of a few weeks on ‘gardening leave’ to relax and recharge, ready for the next step into the future.
I just want to say thank you to everyone who I’ve met, be it in person, over the phone or on Zoom over the years – and of course here and the bird site.
All of you have taken the time to speak to me, answer my sometimes probably simplistic questions and help provide great insights and information for thousands of articles – as well the video series I ran for two years, before it was discontinued to a change in strategy.
Cybersecurity is ultimately a complex subject and while I have no formal training in the area, I’m proud of my work over the last seven years.
Hopefully it has helped someone out there somewhere!
See you around. (He says, when he'll no doubt still be VERY online anyway!)
