I was talking to a good friend yesterday.
We remembered when so many Unix(es) were available, like AIX, HP-UP, Solaris ...and, of course, Linux. The good thing about that period is that -whoever developed a tool or product- made sure it was available on all Unixes. Cross-compatibility was the key.
Although a big fan of Linux, the penguin OS "killed" the other Unixes, so the multi-Unix/distro compatibility concept has slowly disappeared. 🧵
