This picture of Alexander Grothendieck is now quite well known, but is remarkably different from the later photographs (where he is often bald). In fact, it has been discovered recently around 2010 by Philippe Douroux and Amaury Thuillier by browsing through his abandoned papers in Montpellier.
Behind the photograph, there was a note by Paulo Ribenboim who had taken the photograph…
