I mean, I'm running around a dozen database in my Kubernetes cluster at home. We have seen Zalando and other do it in the thousands. The reality is, that automating HA databases has proven to be easiest on Kubernetes for me.
But that doesn't mean it's the ultimate answer. There is this point, where you start to reduce automation in order to improve availability, since automation itself becomes the risk. If your database is at that point, K8s is probably a bad choice.
