I wouldn't quite say the Cheney family stuff "totally failed" - it may have helped - but I'd say it's way too little for just a couple of Republicans to speak out. Nikki Haley made a great case against Trump and won plenty of votes in the primary, even in states where she wasn't running! But then she knuckled under and kissed the ring. Mitt Romney spoke out for a while but then became quiet.
