In 2004, 1GB was a typical amount of RAM. Linux with KDE Plasma would struggle on that. You'd need to use something more stripped down.
But even then, you'd have a serious problem: no modern web browser will work. That's why I ultimately gave away the laptop I had back then, which had 512MB RAM. Trying to browse Reddit would grind the whole machine to a halt, and that was classic 2010 no-frills Reddit, not the bloated, unusable monstrosity that killed it and now wears its logo.
