sometimes the issue is it is fine now, but governments change, companies get bought, collection changes without notice. Sure, data is "anonymous", but we are all human, we make mistakes and introduce bugs. Data leaks, or worse, the collection itself introduces a vulnerability. All very melodramatic stuff.
But really, can a non-technical user really give informed consent?
