Chemicals. My Chinese supply position is unknown until after CNY, but is suspect they will absorb about half the increase. What’s unknown is if the exemption list for Section 301 tariffs will still apply. There are chemicals critical to manufacturing that simply aren’t made in the US. Our SE Asian supply chains are becoming more valuable. The slightly unexpected one was Mexico. I’m working on several products from down there and I’m over a year into the qualification process with a handful of customers. That could end up being wasted effort or they could strike a deal and things could move forward without a hitch. The only business I do into Canada is direct imports from Asia where my customer handles clearance so for now that shouldn’t be impacted.
What’s up in the fence panel world? Are there alternatives to China?
