It does seem like a strange time for content sharing/social media platforms.

Cannibalising themselves trying to dictate how you consume content desperately trying to stay relevant by using each others content sharing methods.

I think it would be interesting to see what happens if social media were to fall out of popularity. We've only really ever seen uptake increase and there are a lot of positives and negatives social media brings with it.
