I've used private mentions to point out errors that can be confusing, like a major typo, or a missing or non-working link. I do it privately to be polite, so folks can edit the post to fix it. If it were me I would want folks to point out these kind of mistakes.
It never occurred to me that private mentions would be ignored!
I will try to remember not to use them with you, but... my memory is so bad that I will probably forget!
