When they're ready to settle down, oyster larvae develop an eyespot. They use this eyespot to pick a place to land, and they also grow a foot, to crawl around to the final spot they will cement! Researchers determined they are attracted to a particular light intensity (helping them find a spot not too shallow and not too deep). Different species also have strong attractions to different colors of light, which might help prioritize places with the right kind of plankton food! #clamFacts
