alternate ammo tracking system
Each weapon has an ammo counter die that is rolled along with the attack roll. When you roll a 1, you go down a die size (e.g. start with a d20 for a full quiver, when you roll a 1 you go down to a d12. Roll a 1 on the d12, go down to a d10 and so on). When you hit a 1 on a d4, you have 1 shot left.
Average number of shots this gives on each die is tabled below: D20: 30 shots D12: 20 D10: 14 D8: 9 D6: 5 D4: 2
This can also be used to randomize loot, e.g. "you find a bow with a partially full quiver of 1 d12 arrows for it" but instead of rolling the d12 for an exact round count, you just start off with a d12.
Neat, I like this.
