The thing about having librul friends is that not only are there certain topics that are best avoided (obvsly, and Im not even a republican, Im registered independent and have been for years) when associating with them, but theres always this tendency of odd misunderstandings to arise anyway. Tried to brush it off for years, often had the gist that it was over politics.
