Sheikh Zayed National Museum is the national museum of the United Arab Emirates, which celebrates the country's rich history and culture since ancient times to the present day. The museum also tells the story of the founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and highlights the most important cultural and historical artifacts and patterns of life and innovation that have been witnessed by human societies in this region throughout history. The museum also preserves a collection of over 2,500 pieces of artistic and archaeological works from ancient and modern cultures in the United Arab Emirates and the region. The museum's message is inspired by the wisdom of the ancestors, and it seeks to honor the legacy of the founding father, who embodied his words and actions and deep respect for the culture of previous generations and their traditions. The museum is located in a strategic location in the heart of the cultural district in Al Sadiyat, and it was built on an area of 72,441 square meters. In an interview with "Al Ittihad", Fatima Al Hamadi, the director of the Sheikh Zayed National Museum, said that her role is to develop the content of the main exhibition halls in the museum, adding that the Sheikh Zayed National Museum will be a place where citizens and residents can come to learn about the country's history and culture. The museum also allows the growing collection of oral history to share their memories and stories. Al Hamadi pointed out that her responsibilities include supervising the collection of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's personal belongings and other archaeological artifacts related to the country's heritage, whether from individuals or private museums, and then preparing them in accordance with the museum's standards and storytelling. She emphasized that the museum focuses on the shared history of the seven emirates and their Islamic values, culture, and heritage, and on the values that the founding father established, which helped to shape the country's cultural and social identity and strengthened the union. The museum has six main exhibition halls, starting with the "Our Beginning" hall, which highlights new aspects of the life, legacy, and values of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, through an original storytelling. The second hall is titled "Through Our Nature", which showcases the diverse natural landscapes in the United Arab Emirates. The third hall is titled "To Our Ancestors", which explores the evidence of human activity in the country dating back 300,000 years. The fourth hall is titled "Within Our Bonds", which showcases the wide horizons that the people of the UAE enjoyed in the past. The fifth hall is titled "On Our Coasts", which focuses on the development of the main human settlements on the UAE's coasts through their dependence on pearl diving, fishing, and trade. The sixth hall is titled "From Our Roots", which showcases the Emirati identity through the display of traditional ways of life, social and economic habits that dominated the UAE's interior regions. Al Hamadi emphasized that the six exhibition halls are not the only ones that tell our story, as there is an outdoor garden of 400 meters that serves as an external exhibition in the open air, following the stages of the founding father's life through the natural environments that inspired him, and includes local plants in three regions: the desert, oasis, and urban areas. She noted that the Sheikh Zayed National Museum seeks to establish itself as a world-class research institution, and the museum is working through the Sheikh Zayed National Museum Research Fund, which was launched in 2023 with a budget of one million dirhams, providing annual grants to researchers who study the culture and history of the UAE. The museum also presents a series of traveling exhibitions, in addition to permanent exhibitions, including a temporary exhibition hosted by the Union Museum in Dubai, and another temporary exhibition in the Emirate of Ajman, emphasizing that such traveling exhibitions aim to reach the museum to all citizens in various emirates of the country.
