My coworkers and I tracked our steps in September. We ranged from a low of 1000-5000 steps for two people up to 7000 - 16000 for me, but I live on a farm and walk a lot at home. Most of my coworkers were getting about 5000 steps. This wasn't a challenge; there weren't any prizes.
