Its depiction of racial relations & stereotypes was controversial & condemned by many even as it was being made. It is by any consideration, modern or otherwise, very rascist. It’s an artifact, it and the contemporary controversy about it are a window into the state of things at the very beginning of the post-WW2 civil rights era. Otherwise it deserves to be forgotten.
