If we don't have advertising or we don't have paywalls, how are we going to pay for content on the web? That's what we hear over and over (from people supporting advertising and paywalls).
But it's ridiculous. First of all, we already pay for the infrastructure ourselves when we pay for access. Advertising and paywalls are an *extra* charge.
And what we *could* be doing with that access is talking to each other. Nobody says, "I'm going to stop this conversation unless you pay me $5."
