NASA has selected three industry proposals to develop technologies for future large space telescopes and plan for the agency's Habitable Worlds Observatory mission concept. The mission aims to directly image Earth-like planets around stars and study their atmospheres for signs of life. NASA is in the early planning stages for the mission and is establishing a Habitable Worlds Observatory Technology Maturation project office. The selected proposals will focus on high-fidelity modeling, subsystem demonstrations, integrated modeling infrastructure, and maturing technologies to support telescope features. The contracts have a combined value of $17.5 million and are targeted to begin by late summer 2024.
