By narrowing our field of vision and forcing us into black-and-white thinking, disinformation and propaganda encourage us not only to ignore other viewpoints, but to disallow them entirely by labeling them — as well as the people who hold them — as dangerous, bad, or stupid. This is what drives the “us vs. them” mindset that encourages us to think of people as enemies simply because we disagree with them — or in some cases, merely because we are *told* that they disagree with us.
