I kinda understand not wanting to have to trust anybody to live a good life. But you can't live a modern life without doing so. Complex societies require it.

That's what's so dangerous about our division and animosity. Lots of things we rely on, people will do for a paycheck. But other things like counting votes fairly, that's mostly about people being decent. Or expecting mostly decent interactions in public. For whatever reason, what if you don't believe they are anymore? #LiberalValues
