I'm not sure why I missed it until now, but At Eternity's Gate was a truly vivid rendering of Van Gogh's creative period in Arles up till his (apparently contested) death. The scenes out wandering in the fields, and the joys / struggles of his condition, seamlessly folded into the subjects and techniques of his art.
