The Silver Surfer is one of the most boring characters in Marvel Comics. My theory is that people love him because:
1) He starred in an utterly gorgeous 1978 graphic novel with some of Jack Kirby's best cosmic artwork. Great art can make even the dullest character seem cool.
2) Surfboards are neat.
