If you list the six smallest denominations of Roman numerals in descending order, you get the numeral for 666. Given how much of Revelation is basically metaphorical attacks on the Roman Empire, maybe the whole Mark of the Beast thing is just that John of Patmos really, really didn't like the Roman numeral system.
