The Age of Sail was replaced by the Age of Rail, and every small town had a train station. Most have been decommissioned, some being removed, others kept as historical legacies but put to other uses to justify their upkeep. The train station in Pugwash was built in 1890 and was used to bring those who attended the world's first international peace conference, held at Thinkers Lodge, in 1957. It now houses the North Cumberland Historical Society.
