OK, I must declare all my efforts to grow my own lettuce and tomatoes from seeds this year as utterly failed.
And the worst part, I don’t know exactly what went wrong… it was my first time with lettuce but I’ve grown tomatoes many times.
My best guess is I chose the wrong soil as a substrate. I took a type being sold as “soil for vegetables” but I suspect seeds need a different substrate.
