Incidentally that masculine feminine dichotomy is intrinsic to the origins of the theology, especially insofar as it has Indo-European influence by way of Hellenism and Indo-Iranian by way of Zoroastrianism, Manichaeism, etc. The reason that God is considered "the father" is because the masculine principal is equated to the mind (nous, logos) and rational faculty, whereas the material world and the body is regarded as feminine in nature. The mind impregnates the body analogous to the phallus entering the vulva, and provides the life force necessary for it's embodiment within the mother. Hence the union of heaven and earth, is a metaphor for the union of mind and body, or the intellect which embodies the laws of nature in action. There's a lot of esoteric nuance involved, and like in Hinduism where you have Shakti (energy) figured as being feminine, the roles can sometimes be reversed. But this is something which vastly transcends Abrahamic religions and is nearly universal to religion across the board. It has nothing to do with some Jewish sky wizard having a penis.
