Art 4 Today
„September of Jelenia Góra"
In July 1997, I received a commission to create a vision for the poster of the annual artistic event "September of Jelenia Góra." I decided to execute the project using my favorite technique of pastel painting. By July 10th, I had already completed the vision, but then a true disaster struck outside my studio window. The rain started falling so heavily that within an hour, the streets turned into rivers. The downpour continued uninterrupted for four days and nights, ultimately causing a devastating flood, later referred to as the flood of the millennium.
By the second day of this catastrophe, with water already flooding buildings up to the ground floor, I decided to abandon my original poster concept. Instead, I channeled my personal experiences from those dramatic days into creating an entirely new piece on cardboard.
Today, I was ready to embark on a journey to Jelenia Góra to – as I mentioned earlier – deliver my first steel sculpture, "Don Quixote," to the city center. However, I did not depart, as I received word that the situation from 1997 is repeating almost identically. For the past two days, it has been raining as heavily as it did back then, and on Sunday and Monday, the culmination of this great flood is expected.
