I was reading about women's experiences with postpartum psychosis recently and it seemed to me that many episodes were caused by extreme difficulty with breastfeeding. Even then, so many women persevered beyond a level of stress I would hopefully never allow myself to put up with because they had so much guilt and shame around feeling like they had failed. I've had a comparatively easy time with it and I'm grateful I can do that for my baby but it's not always the best option and that's okay. I mean hell, even for me it's still a physically demanding thing I am having to do at the very least every 2 1/2 hours, but often more frequently. If I had some of the terrible difficulties I read about that made it 10x harder, I would hope that guilt wouldn't drive me to keep doing it and that people around me would be kind enough to tell me it's okay to do formula instead.
